You need to look after your eyes, just like the rest of your body. Take care of your eyes and your eyesight
Sometimes we tend to neglect our eyes and don’t pay attention to them until something goes wrong. These days we are surrounded by screens. They are on our telephones, computers, tablets and television. Our eyes have to work very hard and they get very little rest during the day. Have you noticed?
We have some tips for helping you to care for your eyes.

Among the best are:
Fruits and vegetables that contain vitamin C such as oranges, peaches and peppers, which prevent loss of eyesight and macular degeneration.
Green vegetables contain antioxidants that prevent cell degeneration. For example, spinach, cabbage, broccoli…
Nuts contain omega 3 fatty acids and vitamin E. These protect the arteries that nourish the eyes and prevent cataracts.
Eggs are rich in zinc, lutein and fatty acids. It is assimilated easily and protects the eyes from premature ageing.
Cereals like quinoa and wheat contain complex carbohydrates and vitamin E that prevent macular degeneration.
Vegetables like tomatoes, carrots and pumpkins contain vitamin A or retinol that promote retinal health.
- Wear sunglasses, even in winter, to protect your eyes from the sun. Make sure these are quality sunglasses with good lenses, not too dark and which do not cause glare.
- Avoid smoky environments.
- Sleep for long enough to rest your eyes.
- Use moisturising eye drops when your eyes feel tired, for example, after hard day at work at the computer.
- To relax and rehydrate the eyes, wet some pads with cold water and rest them on the eyelids. Leave in place for a few minutes.
- Make sure the computer screen is about 50 cm from your eyes. Do not spend more than an hour without focusing on something in the distance. Change your focus often so as to keep your pupil in shape.
- Don’t touch your eyes with your fingers. You may think that your hands are clean but they carry a lot of germs that can cause infections.
- Have regular eye examinations. Have your eyesight checked at least once a year. As you get older you may find that you get eyestrain and need lenses to relieve the stress. If you wear prescription lenses, it is even more important that you have regular eye tests to make sure you are wearing the right glasses.
