Garuda, holistic fitness

This technique is based on yoga and Pilates, and improves the condition of both body and mind.

hybrid of Pilates and yoga, Garuda takes its name from an Indian mythological sacred bird that can change shape according to its function. It was created by James D’Silva, a former professional dancer who combined elements of Pilates, yoga and techniques to re-educate posture as part of an integral physical training programme.

It is a renowned, efficient mind-body training technique, focused on versatility, flexibility and precise movements.

Principles of the method

  1. It eliminates toxins: Garuda has all the benefits of a robust cardiovascular workout, which stretches the mind and tones the body.
  2. It banishes stress by combining spirituality, pranayama (the Sanscrit name for breathing exercises) and yoga postures.
  3. Tones and strengthens the body by combining exercises that work the core (abdominal, lumbar, pelvic, gluteal and spinal muscles) with Pilates and the precise movements of dance.
  4. It reduces the risk of injury: fans learn to control their bodies through stretches and specific movements, learning to move smoothly and harmoniously.
  5. Improved flexibility: with these carefully choreographed routines, a few sessions are enough to improve your balance and control, for a more flexible body.
  6. Prevents back problems: stretching is often an effective way to prevent and cure muscle pains in the back, lumbar and cervical regions.
  7. There are numerous possibilities: there is a multipurpose machine (optional) for doing a wide variety of exercises. The platform consists of a chair and pulley, ropes and bars for a greater range of movement.

In short, it is an original alternative to traditional exercise routines, and is useful both for rehabilitation after injury and for improving general wellbeing.
