Find out why it is so necessary to drink water and hydrate yourself!

Experts recommend we drink about eight glasses of water a day.  That is about one and a half litres. Food, especially fruit and vegetables, as well soups, purées, coffee and teas add another half-litre of fluid so that our body can perform all its vital functions in the best possible way.

But what exactly are the benefits of water?

  1. It helps prevent constipation, because it helps the alimentary bolus to advance and ensures that the faeces are not so hard.
  2. It improves digestion. It helps dissolve nutrients for their absorption by the body.
  3. It helps you maintain your weight. Because it makes you feel full and, as a resul,t you eat less. It is a good habit to drink a glass of water before every meal. Try it.
  4. It helps you look after your heart. Drinking water helps blood circulation and controls your blood pressure.
  5. It reduces tiredness. Dehydration prevents the body from carrying out its functions normally and raises your feeling of tiredness. You should always have a bottle of water with you when working and you will be more productive.
  6. It helps prevent headaches. As well as causing tiredness, a lack of water can lead to headaches and migraine.
  7. It improves your skin. You do not get moisturised, luminous and smooth skin with creams only. If you do not drink enough it will look dull and the mucous membranes will dry up. Even if you suffer from acne or dermatitis, drinking water will help you relieve the symptoms.
  8. It regulates body temperature. This is indispensable in summer when high temperatures make you perspire more but, in winter, proper hydration is also necessary to avoid feeling the cold, and it will provide you with the energy to protect your muscles and joints.
  9. It improves your Your immune system is strengthened when the body receives the necessary quantity of water. This protects you from common diseases like flus and cold.
  10. It helps you optimise your physical condition. You will not be able to perform sports properly if you do not hydrate yourself properly before, during and after training. You will regulate your temperature better and be able to carry the nutrients from which you get your energy and it will also help lubricate your joints.
In order to drink eight glasses of water a day without difficulty, follow this advice: one glass before breakfast, two glasses at work during the morning, the fourth before lunch and another during lunch. A further glass before your mid-afternoon snack, the seventh before supper and the eighth during supper. That makes eight.
