Tell me your age and I’ll recommend an activity

Sport is advisable at any age and there are thousands of different kinds of sport to suit your taste, expectations and, of course, the shape you are in.

According to the experts, generally, the best sports are:

  • Swimming: it moves all muscle groups in a safe environment.
  • Gym: it combines movement and bodybuilding, its’ fun and helps you socialise.
  • Running: it tones the muscles, improves the heart’s pumping, and posture.
  • Cycling: it improves circulation and the respiratory system.
  • Tennis or paddle tennis: it develops coordination and attention.
  • Golf: it helps you socialise, it stimulates the mind and strengthens legs and trunk.

Choose the one that best suits you depending on your age, your interest, availability and the time you have for doing sports.

  1. In your teens and twenties, you tend to like team sports like football, basketball, swimming, aerobics, etc. You can endure long training sessions and for you the most important thing is to have fun without having to make any great sacrifice.
  2. From your thirties onwards, contact sports no longer interest you. You have already had an injury and it is fundamental that you control your weight. You need motivation in order to not give up.
Start with running, go cycling, join a spinning class, or Body Pump class, play tennis or paddle tennis.
It will tone your muscles, you’ll sweat and burn calories and it’s better to do it in company so you don’t get bored.
  1. You’re now 40 and want to stay in shape for your health.
Even if you’ve never done any sport, it’s still not too late to start. Get a check-up, and choose the one that best suits your life. Don’t be overly daring.
Go trekking or take a walk in the city parks and set a goal of 10,000 steps a day. Join a dance, Zumba, stretching, or body contact class. Any aerobic exercise will do, combined with bodybuilding.
If you prefer something more relaxed, take up golf.

After this age, you can and should go on doing sport. It depends on whether you have done it before, your interest and tastes. Try body maintenance at the gym, yoga, Pilates, tennis, etc.

See? There’s a sport for every age. You have no excuse. Get going!
